Got his name from singing to the cows and sheep.

Ev’ry night they say he sings the herd to sleep.

In a bass, so rich and deep,

Crooning soft and low.

He always sings raggy music to the cattle,

as he swings back and forward in the saddle,

on a horse that is syncopated,

and there’s such a funny meter to the roar of his repeater.

How they run when they hear that fellow’s gun,

because the Western folks all know,

He’s a high falutin’,

scootin’, shootin’,

son of a gun from Arizona,

Ragtime Cowboy Joe.

When the man sings a happy tune,

he is our favorite cowboy by far.

Ev’ry girl in the town is Joe’s,

for he knows how the ragtime music goes.

He can whistle and sing and dance.

He gets the crowd all worked up to a roar.

He is rough, he is tough,

and he is made of the stuff that makes the men want to clear the dance floor.

not a cloud in the sky.
