I peeked in to say goodnight and then

I heard my child in pray’r,

“And for me some scarlet ribbons,

Scarlet ribbons for my hair.”

All the stores were closed and shuttered

All the streets were dark and bare,

in our town no scarlet ribbons,

scarlet ribbons for her hair.

Thru the night my heart was aching,

Just before the dawn was breaking,

I peeked in and on her bed in gay profusion lying there,

lovely ribbons, scarlet ribbons for her hair.

If I live to be two hundred,

I will never know from where came those lovely scarlet ribbons for her hair.

 

我偷偷在說晚安，然後

我聽到我的孩子在祈禱，

所有的商店都關閉

所有的街道既黑又空無一人，

我們鎮上沒有鮮紅色絲帶，

鮮紅色絲帶能紮她的髮。

整夜我心痛，

就在黎明破曉前，

我先偷看，在她的床上，一個巨大的歡喜躺在那，

可愛的鮮紅色絲帶，給她紮頭髮的鮮紅色絲帶。

如果我能活到兩百歲，

我永遠不會知道這些給她紮頭髮的可愛鮮紅色絲帶打哪來。
