The woman folly is riotous;

She is thoughtlessness and knowing nothing

And she sitteth at the door of her house,

On a seat in the high places of the city to call to them that pass by,

Who go right on their ways.

“Whoso is thoughtless, let him turn in hither;

And as for him that lacketh understanding,

She saith to him: Stolen waters are sweet and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

But he knoweth not that the shades are there,

that her guests are in the depths of the nether world.

 

愚昧的婦人喧嚷；

她是愚蒙，一無所知

她坐在自己的家門口，

坐在城中高處的座位上，  呼叫過路的，

就是直行其道的人。

她說：「誰是愚蒙人，可以轉到這裡來。」；

又對那無知的人，

她對他說：偷來的水是甜的，暗吃的餅是好的。

人卻不知有陰魂在她那裡，

她的客在陰間的深處。
