Heighho! the lark and the owl!

One flies the morning and one lulls the night.

Only the nightingale,

poor fond soul,

Sings through the darkness and light.

Heighho!

A widow bird sat mourning for her love

Upon a wint’ry bough.

The frozen wind crept on above,

the freezing stream below.

There was no leaf upon the forest bare,

No flower upon the ground and little motion in the air except the millwheel’s sound.

 

嘿！雲雀和貓頭鷹！

一個在早晨飛翔，一個使夜晚平靜。

只有夜鶯，

可憐多情，

穿越黑暗和燈光歌唱。

嘿！

喪偶鳥哀愁

嚴冬佇枝頭。

高空凜冽寒風吹，

地面冰冷溪水流。

樹林光禿，

地上花全無，唯聞水車轉動。
