提斯戴爾為美國近代詩人，文筆抒情、高雅、洗鍊，〈只在夢中〉為詩人完成於1920年的作品，傳達對童年景象的憧憬、真摯情感的神往。艾遜瓦在本首樂曲中運用簡潔的和聲織度烘托出女高音獨唱旋律，呼應原詩的文筆風格，鋪陳在夢中對往昔的追憶之情。在樂曲的最後，吊鈸弱奏的音色巧妙地融合在合唱團的聲響之中，其細緻的波動以及豐富的泛音在樂曲結尾處起了畫龍點睛的作用，如同表述如夢似幻的悸動。 |
