二次戰後，所有參戰國都元氣大傷，美國也不例外；1957年越戰爆發，掀起一股反戰熱潮，在此情境下，素有美國民歌宗師之稱的鮑伯‧迪倫(Bob Dylan, b.1941) 於1962年，創作了這首非常著名的反戰歌曲《飛揚在風中》，他擷取黑人靈歌《再也沒有拍賣台》(No More Auction Block) 的部分旋律，並且仿照鄉村歌曲《我真的不想知道》( I Really Don’t Want to Know) 的歌詞編排方式。
雷湯姆斯 (Len Thomas) 則重新編寫合唱曲，將美國愛國歌曲《美國》(America) 與原曲的旋律巧妙地交織起來，隨著自由鐘聲的動機，更加深原曲中世人追求自由和捍衛和平的決心。雖然「Blowing in the wind」的時代背景是越戰時期的美國社會，但是這首歌的意境卻是「放諸四海皆準」，始終深受世界各地人們的喜愛。 |
