Who were the shepherds, Mary,

Hastening to adore Jesus, the tender baby no one had seen before?

Yes, they were simple shepherds, saw Him the first of all;

Rough in a way, but gentle, loving and pitiful.

Who were the kings, O Mary? Tell us if that be true:

Kings on a journey, seeking Jesus the strangely knew.

Kings from a distant country, eager to see the Boy,

Gifts of devotion brought Him filling His heart with joy.

 

Who are the folk that beg thee, crowding around thy feet:

After our exile show us Jesus the Babe most sweet?

Those are the millions He ransoms,

born of a virgin’s womb,

lying alive in a manger,

Dead and divine in a tomb.

 

Who are the tribes and nations clad in their robes and crown’d,

Striking their harps and singing hymns of so sweet a sound?

Those are the hosts unnumber’d prostrate before the throne,

Praising to endless ages Him who is Lord alone!

 

瑪利亞，是那幾個牧羊人

趕緊去敬拜耶穌，那一個溫柔，沒有人見過的小嬰孩？

是的，就是謙卑的牧羊人，首先看到祂；

粗糙但溫和，又逗人憐愛。

 

噢，瑪利亞，請告訴我們，那些國王是誰呢？

在旅途中的國王，尋找那個他們不認識的耶穌。

從遙遠國家而來的國王，急著要看見男孩，

獻上禮物，滿滿的把祂的心充滿喜樂。

 

那些擠在耶穌腳下，向祢乞求，

讓我們漂泊過後，看到甘甜的又是誰呢？

是贖回萬民

由童女所生，

出生在馬槽中，

在墓中死去並升天的那一個。

 

被加冕，穿長袍的部落和國家，

用美麗的聲音彈琴和唱詩歌的是誰呢？

那是在主的王位前俯伏敬拜過無數次的人，

永永遠遠的只讚頌主的人！
