Piping down the valleys wild,

Piping songs of pleasant glee,

On a cloud I saw a child,

And he laughing said to me:

‘Pipe a song about a lamb.’

So I piped with merry cheer,

‘Piper, pipe that song again.’   

So I piped; he wept to hear...

 

‘Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe;

Sing thy songs of happy cheer.’

So I sung the same again,

While he wept with joy to hear.

‘Piper, sit thee down and write in a book that all may read’

So he vanished from my sight.

And I plucked a hollow reed,

And I made a rural pen,

And I stained the water clear,

And I wrote my happy songs.....

Every child may joy to hear.

 

我吹笛沿著荒谷下來，

吹奏愉快的歡樂歌曲，

在雲上，我看到一個孩子，

他笑著對我說：

「吹奏一首關於羊羔的歌。」

所以我帶著歡快的歡呼聲吹奏，

「吹笛子的人，再吹奏那首歌。」

所以我吹奏；他聽著就哭了...

 

「放下你的笛子，你的快樂笛子；

唱你的快樂歌兒。」

所以我又唱了一遍，

他聽著快樂得淚眼汪汪。

「吹笛子的人，坐下來，寫一本所有人都可以閱讀的書。」

就那樣，他從我眼前消失了。

我拔了一根空心蘆葦，

我做了一個有農村風味的筆，

我把水弄髒了，

我寫下我的快樂歌.....

每個孩子聽了都會很高興。
