‘Father, where are you going?

Oh do not walk so fast.

Speak, father, speak to your little boy,

The night was dark, 

No father was there,

The child was wet with dew.

The mire was deep, and the child did weep,

And away the vapour flew.

 

The little boy lost in the lonely fen,

Led by the wandering light,

Began to cry, but God ever nigh 

Appeared like his father in white.

 

He kissed the child and by the handled,

And to his mother brought, 

Who in sorrow pale through the lonely dale

Her little boy weeping sought, her little boy weeping sought.

 

「爸爸，你上哪兒？

啊，別走那麼快。

爸爸，說呀，跟你孩子說話，

不然我就要迷路啦。」

 

漆黑的夜裡，

爸爸不見了，

露水淋濕了孩子。

泥沼又深，孩子流淚，

夜霧向四處飛散開來。

 

丟失在荒涼泥地的小男孩，

跟在搖晃不定的燈光後面，

他哭出來，但上帝永在身邊

他穿著白衣，就像爸爸現身。

 

他親親小男孩，牽著他的手，

把他領到母親身邊來，

她臉色慘白，穿過荒谷，

哭著尋找她的小男孩，哭著尋找她的小男孩。
