Come sons of summer,

By whose toile,

We are the lords of wine and oile;

By whose tough labours and rough hands,

We rip up first, then reap our lands.

Crown’d with the eares of corne, now come,

and to the pipe sing harvest home.

See, here a maukin, there a sheet,

As spotless pure as it is sweet:

The horses, mares and frisking fillies,

clad all in linen white as lilies.

The harvest swains and wenches bound

For joy to see the hockcart crown’d.

Here, how the rout of rurall younglings about the cart raise the shout, pressing before, some coming after,

those with a shout and these with laughter.

Some bless the cart;

Some kiss the sheaves;

Some prank them up;

Some prank up with oaken leaves;

Some with great devotion,

Stroak the home borne wheat

While others rusticks,

Less attent to prayers

Then to merryment,

Run after with their breeches rent,

On to your hearth where,

for your mirth, ye shall see, brave boyes, to your hearth,

Glitt’ring with fire;

Ye shall see first the large and cheefe foundation of your feast, fat beefe:

With upper stories mutton,

veale and bacon (which makes full the meals).

Then to the maids with wheaten hats,

to the rough sickle, and crookt sythe Drink frollick boyes till all be blythe.

Feed and grow fat, and us ye eat,

be mind-full that the lab’ring neat, as you,

May have their fill of meat.

And know, besides ye must revoke the patient oxe unto the yoke.

And all goe back unto the plough And harrow,

(though they’r hang’d up now).

and that this pleasure is like raine,

not sent ye to drowne your paine,

but for to make it spring againe.

 

來呀，夏日的子弟們

我們勞苦做工

盡情享用美酒

我們辛勤勞動 手上佈滿老繭

先是挖土掘地 再來收割莊稼

頭冠上玉米穗 快來呀

隨著悠悠笛聲 讚頌豐收節慶

快看呀 稻草人身上蓋了條布

純潔無瑕

公馬 母馬 以及活潑的小雌馬

穿上如百合花一般白淨的衣裳

村子裡頭的男女青農

追隨載滿莊稼的馬車 一路高呼前行

鄉村青年為馬車喝采 一個接著一個

歡呼與笑聲此起彼落

他們為馬車送上祝福

他們親吻成捆的穀物

他們梳妝打扮

他們以橡葉裝扮

他們獻上誠心

輕撫自種的小麥

至於其餘的村民

以歡笑代替禱告

追逐在後 馬褲都破

一路奔跑到門前

經過門前的男孩 帶來無比的歡樂

他們光彩奪目如花火

豐盛饗宴也映入眼簾

美食層層疊起

羊肉小牛熏肉（才稱得上完整的一餐）

為頭戴草帽的少女祝酒

為又殘又鈍的鐮刀祝酒

為變形長柄大鐮刀祝酒

大口喝吧 讓我們歡鬧作樂 直到無憂無慮

大口吃吧 讓我們肥胖不已 張口時可當心

你嘴裡品嚐的美味佳餚

也許正是那辛勞的牛隻

別忘了喚醒辛勤的公牛 套上牛軛

拖著犁頭 奮力耙地

（即使牠們早被宰殺吊掛）

如此喜樂好似雨水降臨

但非用以淹沒農作苦痛

只為再次迎接春天到來
