O soft embalmer of the still mid-night!

Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,

Our gloom-pleased eyes,

Embowered from the light,

Enshaded in forgetfulness divine;

O soothest sleep!

if so it please thee, close,

In midst of this thine hymn, my willing eyes,

Or wait the amen, ere thy poppy throws 

Around my bed its lulling charities;

Then save me, or the passed day will shine

Upon my pillow, breeding many woes;

Save me from curious conscience, that still lords 

Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;

Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,

And seal the hushed casket of my soul.

 

沉靜午夜的溫婉守護

悲喜雜陳的雙眸

掩蓋了光亮

遁入純淨的遺忘之鄉

噢最撫慰人的睡眠

如你應允，我將閉上

欣喜的眼，徜徉於你的輕吟

或在禱告後，待那罌粟遍灑

床邊縈繞溫暖睡意

再使我免於昨日映影

在枕上空留無盡遺憾

助我掩抑好奇的意識

儘管在闇夜，仍若鼴鼠翻騰

靈巧轉動上油的棺鎖

將我的魂魄封印於沉靜靈柩
