芬蘭當代作曲家約翰森（Bengt Johansson, 1914-1989）畢業於西貝流士音樂學院，主修大提琴與作曲。曾擔任芬蘭廣播電台的聲響工程師，這份工作經驗讓他創作了芬蘭音樂史上第一個電子音樂作品Three electronic studies，同時亦成為芬蘭合唱音樂的主要改革先驅之一。

本曲創作於1985年，歌詞節錄自詩篇139，為無伴奏女聲三部合唱曲。全曲共可分為三個樂段，皆採用主音和聲式的作曲手法。在第一與第三樂段中，作曲家除了將部分樂句再細分為五個級進聲響堆疊的聲部外，同時運用9個或10個獨唱者，分別延音接唱級進下行的自然音階，製造如極光般綿密的音堆聲效，表現出神從至高處對人們的保護看守，以及指引永恆的道路。中間樂段則利用從單拍子到複拍子的節拍脈動變化，多個大跳進音程的三聲部平行且抑揚的曲調進行，以及緩步漸強與漸弱的力度張力轉變，深刻地展現了人們對神的敬畏與崇拜之情。
