The tree of life my soul hath seen,

Laden with fruit and always green;

The trees of nature fruitless be,

Compar'd with Christ the Appletree.

 

His beauty doth all things excel,

By faith I know, but ne'er can tell.

The glory which I now can see,

In Jesus Christ the Appletree.

 

For happiness I long have sought,

And pleasure dearly I have bought;

I miss'd of all, but now I see

'Tis found in Christ the Appletree.

 

This fruit doth make my soul to thrive,

It keeps my dying faith alive;

Which makes my soul in haste to be

With Jesus Christ the Appletree.

 

 

I'm weary'd with my former toil,

Here I will sit and rest a while;

Under the shadow I will be,

Of Jesus Christ the Appletree.

 

 

 

我的靈魂已見到那生命之樹，

綠油油地，並結滿了豐潤的果實，

比起那些地上不結果實的樹，

基督的蘋果樹是如此豐盛。

 

他的美好勝過一切，

我憑藉信心，帶著無法言喻的信靠。

在耶穌基督的蘋果樹裡，

我現已看見榮耀。

 

我不斷追尋內心的喜樂，

渴望得到最深層、最珍貴的喜悅，

我曾盲目而迷失，直到尋得基督的蘋果樹，

而今才得以重見光明。

 

這樹上的果子滋養了我的靈魂，

使消極落魄的我重建信心及盼望，

更使我的心靈渴慕，

與基督耶穌的蘋果樹同在。

 

我拖著疲憊不堪的身軀面對自己過去的苦痛，

此刻我將靜靜地坐在耶穌基督的蘋果樹下，

乘著樹蔭， 

使心靈得以平靜片刻。

 

 

聖經雅歌第二章中說道：「我的良人在男人中，如同蘋果樹在樹林中。我歡歡喜喜坐在他的蔭下，嘗他果子的滋味覺得甘甜。」正因「蘋果樹」所結的果實豐盛而肥美，使它與樹林中的其他樹木相比，顯得更為珍貴而與眾不同。當然，這蘋果樹的說法並不單指這樹本身，更隱喻了「耶穌基督」的美好。
 

有了穩固扎實的根，才能結出茂盛碩大的“果實”，此“孕育”之意涵也可在「聖母頌」 (Ave Maria) 的拉丁經文中查見：以“果實”(Fructus) 一字表示聖母馬利亞胎中的嬰孩。上帝為拯救世人，使馬利亞因聖靈而感孕，使救世主「耶穌基督」誕生於塵世。這珍貴又豐盛的“果實”，不但使人吃了得以安然飽足，更使生命得蒙澆灌和滋潤，我們若能追尋這牢固的根，便能心曠神怡地乘著這樹之蔭，安靜、沈澱我們的思緒，用心體會這果子帶來的滋養與洗滌。
